Innovations works with customers to create individual gifts, usually beginning with an idea or inspiration they have. Often the idea comes from a spot of color needed in the room. The next question from Innovations is usually “Do you want the piece to sit out all the time or just when in use?” The answer to this often directs the design work.
If the piece is to be out all the time, it becomes more art than function and needs to be made for more of a specific location. If it’s to be hung from the ceiling, put in an office, or in a hallway, location will be taken into consideration for the creation. Art can be designed to replicate a favorite car or hobby. Sculpted art is perfect for bringing a bit of the outdoors indoors!
Entertaining
Unlike Sculpted Art, items for entertaining are generally time and use specific. This means the colors can be anything you want to accent and don’t have ‘match’ their environment. Jewlery
When time is short in the studio, jewelry is a favorite pastime. Necklaces with dichroic glass are fun to create and wear. Dichroic glass is chemically different to change with heat. The end results are always a surprise then the kiln lid is opened. Earring to match, no problem.
Picture Frames
Frames are a wonderful way to accent a favorite picture or place. They can be designed to hang or sit on an isle for table display. Glass that is soldered together is cold glass. Frames using pieces of glass or dishes use a technique called mosaics when they are grouted together. Glass melted in the kiln is fused. Frames using small pieces of glass are a specific design from the Innovations studio.
Candle Holders
One of the most popular gifts is candle holders. They can be simple or elegant. Bevels in the design allow the candle light to flicker off the edges and refract glow to the surrounding area.
Kaleidoscopes
Someone having a “round” birthday and you want to give a unique gift? A kaleidoscope with their birthday number at the end is a wonderful way to say Happy Birthday. Is your gift recipient recovering from illness and not moving around much? A kaleidoscope provide an ever changing view of enjoyment.
Musical Instruments
Innovations loves to create music designs. Guitars can be made to be 2 foot long wall statements or as holiday ornaments for the tree. Trumpets, violins, drums- what can we design for your musician?
Music Boxes
Music boxes can be made in any shape. A children’s song or Mom’s favorite photo can be designed into a perfect musical gift. Items can be made to turn while the music is playing or play more than one tune. Dichroic and other types of glass in these pieces reflect front lighting for a stunning look.
Ornaments
There is no such thing as a standard ornament. Pictures of beloved pets can be preserved as an ornament or plaque to hang on the wall. First days of school or a wedding can be captured in glass for Christmas memories when it is time to decorate a tree. Live by the beach? How about a sea shell or flip flop? Cool Stuff
Sometimes our creations don’t fit into any category. Items like a business card holder can help celebrate a new job. While book marks or wine charms are the perfect hostess gift.
