When the call came from a local restaurant who was renovating, it was one of those occasions! They had two areas of the building that were separated by a large open set of shelves. The dining area on one side with the sushi bar on the other. The owner wanted a few big pieces for the walls to capture attention. She didn’t want anything in the windows to block views to outside.
We created multiple large 3D pieces that were all slightly different in design. The owner had no idea what she wanted but the studio designed the drawings and took them to her for approval. After that was finalized, the glass choices were made with varying color combinations to there went together but didn’t match. The idea was to have them look like art on the walls.
The final pieces for the dining room measured about 24 inches tall and were all flat on the back with design elements of leaves and petals that were kiln shaped and added to the flat backdrop piece. The results were awesome! One of these wall pieces was put into the sushi room for continuity. Some of her pieces are shown here.
The shelves that divided the areas were the perfect place for smaller pieces that sat on the shelves. A fan with a coy fish in it was designed for each shelf so it could be seen from both sides. There were multiple fans, some of which are shown here. There was a specific order to them so when a guest looked across the shelves, the water design flowed from shelf to shelf.
Fundraiser Project
Being called for fundraiser projects is another sweet spot for Innovations In Glass. This project was a 2 class project. Every 2 classes was to have something for the school auction to be bid on. The project was to be designed by the class. Each class was given a budget for materials and told to be creative.
I knew a mom in the class so we worked together to design something each child could be showcased with. Innovations took precut glass pieces to each classroom and the children were given a base square of white. They glued their choice of glass tiles together to create a mini piece of art. The squares were then fused and put together with solder to create a large mirror. There was a list on the back that included each child’s name and the location of their specific tile.
The mirror was then sold to the highest bidder with all funds going to a school project. The mirror was the highest bid on item for that year!
